The California Desert Conservation Area is a million acre expanse of land in southern California designated by Congress in through the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. It designated million acres as part of the National Conservation Lands of the California Desert. Much of this land was already a part of the National Conservation Lands (in particular, large portions of the Mojave Trails and Sand to Snow National Monuments), but million acres were a . parks and 69 Bureau of Land Management wilderness areas. The California Desert and Wilderness Restoration Project is working to restore and revitalize these lands through a public/private partner-ship. The Project utilizes Student Conservation Association crews to inventory, to remove and rehabilitate unauthorized vehicle. One of the most incredible aspects of BLM's Wilderness Inventory for the California Desert, was that it was conducted primarily in the hot summer months.
